About Us

New Animal Care Centre

While the current site on Lansdowne Street East has served Peterborough and Peterborough County well for the last 64 years, we have outgrown the space as we are caring for more animals than ever before. In our new, purpose-built facility dogs, cats and small animals will have more room and will experience less noise and stress which will make them happier and healthier and set them to find their forever home that much sooner.

This will help make the community happier and healthier by bringing new jobs, national attention and new resources to the City of Peterborough, Peterborough County, the surrounding region and beyond for generations to come.

At the Peterborough Humane Society we facilitate adoptions to help dogs, cats and small animals match with their perfect family and find their forever home.

Last year we facilitated nearly 1,000 adoptions! We provide shelter and care for over 1,500 lost, injured, abandoned and abused animals each year.


Local business owner donates $300,000 to Peterborough Humane Society’s new animal care centre

Local business owner Glenn Stonehouse has donated $300,000 to the fundraising campaign for the Peterborough Humane Society’s new animal care centre. Stonehouse is the owner and president of One Fine Food in Peterborough and Wildfire Golf Club in Douro-Dummer on the shores of Stoney Lake.

Woman’s estate bestows $741,000 for Peterborough Humane Society’s animal care centre

A Peterborough-area woman’s estate gift is providing $741,000 to the Peterborough Humane Society‘s new animal care centre project. According to the humane society, the late Cynthia (Cyndy) Richards left the estate gift to support the Our Pet Project campaign to build the $10.3-million facility on 20 acres of land on Technology Drive.
