‘Generous’ donation to Peterborough Animal Care Centre in memory of animal lover

A dog adoption suite will be named after Drew MacDonald following a “generous” memorial donation to the new Peterborough Animal Care Centre. According to the Peterborough Humane Society, Gloria Porter-MacDonald provided the gift in memory of her Drew, who died in January 2020 at the age of 51.

Trees planted at new Peterborough Humane Society facility

More than 400 trees and shrubs were planted at the new Peterborough Humane Society site during the 2022 TD Tree Days event Saturday, October 22. More than 50 volunteers planted over 400 trees, including Staghorn Sumac, Willow, and Red Osier Dogwood.

A Havelock roofing company is offering to donate and install a metal roof for the Peterborough Humane Society’s new animal care centre project. Fundraising efforts continue for the $10.3-million centre to be built on 20 acres of land on Technology Drive in the city’s east end. The facility would replace the aging and cramped animal shelter on Lansdowne Street East and include an adoptions centre and spay and neuter clinic as well as a provincial dog rehabilitation centre and offices.

Darling Insurance Golf Tournament tees off Aug. 29 in Peterborough

Plans for the 22nd annual Darling Insurance Golf Tournament were announced Tuesday. The tournament will take place Aug. 29 at the Peterborough Golf and Country Club on Armour Road. The tournament will benefit Community Care Peterborough and the Peterborough Humane Society. Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $250,000 for local charities.

Mortons donate $25K to Peterborough Humane Society

A Peterborough couple has donated $25,000 to the Peterborough Humane Society’s Our Pet Project campaign. David and Patricia Morton made the donation to help the society build its new Peterborough Animal Care Centre, which will house the society’s adoption and education centre, a spay and neuter clinic and a provincial dog rehabilitation centre, in addition to the society’s offices.
